THE MYER-BRIGGS LEARNING STYLES MODEL
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) is a widely used tool for establishing an individuals personality profile. Although the indicator can be combined into 16 different learning styles (Pritchard 2014), the MBTI describes four different scales for perceiving and judging reality and is commonly used as an aptitude test in the recruitment process of employment(Swanson & O'Saben 1993) .
The four scales are
Extroversion-introversion
Sensing- intuition
Thinking- feeling
Judging –perceiving
This model is based on the belief that learners may be
Extroverts – who are people, people and are happy to try things out.
Introverts – who think things through and focus on ideas
Sensors- who focus on facts and procedures with a tendency to be practical
Intuitors- those who focus on menaing, are intuitive and concept orientated
Thinkers – make decisions on logic and rules and are uite often sceptical
Feelers- are appreciative and tend to make decisions based on humanistic considerations
Judgers – seek closure in closure and are notorious for setting and following agendas
Perceivers – are those adapt to changing circumstances and prefer to gain as much information as possible before completing a task.
