LEARNING THEORIES
Behaviourism
Behaviourism has been a major school of thought in the psychology field since the early 1900’s and the majority of research on behaviourism has focused mainly on learning. John B Watson, one of the most influential theorists in behaviourism notes that behaviourism is based on the notion that behaviour can be observed and measured, and argues that the explanations of learning are developed out of the observation of what can actually be seen, i.e. a stimulus response relationship either conditioned Adults are more likely to learn through positive reinforcement (Pritchard,2014)
Constructivism
This learning theory believes that learning is a result of a mental construction and is based on the idea that learning takes place by building on our existing individual current structure of knowledge skills and experiences. Constructivism is achieved through actively making connections between new information and past experiences. (Pritchard, 2014)
